Townsville & Thuringowa

HOME

This is the official website of the Tropical Coast Wanderers. A chapter of the CMCA.

Townsville has some wonderful rest area's where you are allowed to stay 48 hours. Driving north towards Ingham about 20 KM at Bluewater on the left hand side. Toilet and water and a shop across the road.  Another 5 KM north at Toomulla Beach. This rest area is close to a boat ramp and near a creek inlet. Looks like a good fishing spot. Toilet and water.   A bit further north at Balgal Beach. This is just a carpark but it is close to the sea. Toilet and water. Another 20 KM north at Rollingstone. A very popular spot. Swimming hole adjacent to the rest area. Toilet,  water and cold showers.

Driving south towards Ayr. The BP truckstop just out of town allows you to stay over night. Use the petrol station also to buy fuel and whatever else you need.  Another petrol station at Alligator Creek has the same deal. Further south and a bit of the highway in Guru there is a rest area behind the Guru international Hotel. No time limit. Toilet, water and cold showers.  In the centre of Home hill is a comfort stop. All facilities: toilet, water, hot shower, BBQ.

A dump point is located near the Ross river dam. This is where the Dam fine rally has been held the last few years.

While staying in the northern suburbs why not use the Rollingstone and district community Centre.

           Rollingstone Community Centre

This Centre comprises a large well-appointed Hall, Rural Transaction Centre (for the provision of Health, Welfare and Community Services) and an adjoining park with barbecue facilities, children’s playground, half basketball court and beach volleyball court.

The main Hall is used Monday – Friday for Line Dancing, Tai Chi, Indoor Bowls, Tae Kwon Do, Aerobics, Op Shop, small Library, Hairdresser every second Wednesday, and Playgroup. On Sundays at 7.30 a.m., there is a Church Service. The community at large and traveling public is welcome to join in any or all of these activities. There is also a Vet in attendance on the third Thursday of each month.

The RTC has internet-connected computers available to the public; there are also  Centrelink and Medicare Access Points. A Card group meets there on a Monday morning and the Craft group on Wednesday morning and respite on a Thursday. Our Family Support Worker works 9am – 3pm, Monday to Friday. We have photocopying and fax facilities available as well.

We would love to see many visitors avail themselves of what we have to offer!!
